...... birth promise.
During Biblical times, much value was placed on a woman’s ability to birth heirs. In 1 Samuel we find a powerful story of a barren woman, who for years, had been taunted, shamed, and desperately prayed for a child. During this time, the barrenness of Hannah was not just a disappointing circumstance….it was a complete and utter tragedy to her as woman. In eyes of the world, her lacking…her barrenness labeled her ‘unworthy’.
It was Shameful.
How painful it must have been for Hannah that her barren place was because God, not the enemy, had SHUT UP HER WOMB.
But like Hannah, don’t we all have barren places in our lives, where our lacking gives the world ammo to taunt or try to devalue us.
I’m talking complete and utter tragedies that we yearn for Him to fix.
- A broken marriage.
- A wayward child.
- Cancer plaguing a loved one.
- An addicted friend.
- Financial bankruptcy.
- Years of infertility.
This list can be long…..this world is full of desperate people crying out from barren places.
We beg and pray for Him to fill that place, yet our womb still remains shut up.
What the story of Hannah has shown me is this. When God shuts up our womb, and we feel like He hasn’t heard our cries, it’s ALWAYS because He’s birthing something BIGGER than what we seek.
You see, Hannah’s tears were ordained to be part of the glorious story of what God was doing in Israel’s history. And He’s doing the same in OUR life too. Everyone experiences desires that will not be quenched and circumstances that cause intense grief.
Many times, we simply do not understand these things.
But in the life of Hannah we see that God knows our story from beginning to end, that everything has a purpose, and that trust in Him is never misplaced.
I’m declaring Hannah’s Vow over the barren places in YOUR LIVES. I’m crying out to the empty aching “womb” in YOU, that it may birth revival….in YOUR hearts and in YOUR homes, and be used as a monument to display the splendor of the Lord.
“O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, if you will look upon OUR sorrow and answer OUR prayer and give US all our heart desires. We will give it back to you.”
And I’m going to declare over each of you what Eli declared over Hannah. No matter WHAT that empty aching womb is, I’m declaring this…”GO IN PEACE and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him.”
Through Hannah’s, and all our painful aching wombs…God has birthed something GREAT in our barrenness….long before He ever answers our requests…and that’s……
